The Gordon Parks Center for Culture and Diversity is one of the special projects cared for by Fort Scott Community College. The exhibit features many artifacts from Parks' life, such as photographs, awards, letters and the writing desk from which he penned multiple books.

One annual event that is sponsored by the Center is an annual international photography contest. The photos are put on display for the community, students and any other visitors that should happen to wander through at the time.

In addition to the artwork by Parks donated to the Center, there is also a sizable and significant display at Mercy Hospital in Fort Scott. Along the hallways of the hospital are photographs donated by the Parks family to the health center.
