Lake Fort Scott is located in a peaceful, country setting just south of the town. The 352-acre lake is stocked year round with several different varieties of fish, and is also the site of several fishing tournaments during the warmer months. Along with the usual motorboats and jetskies, colorful sailboats can sometimes be spotted out on the waters.

In addition to Fort Scott Lake, there is also two other, smaller lake near town. Rock Creek Lake is shallow and well suited to the needs of fishermen, but not for motorized boats, jet skies or sailboats.
